What are the benefits of a DIY Body Butter?
Moisture:
Body butters are made from nut or seed oils that contain emollients. Emollients are rich little moisture beads that the skin drinks up. They provide superior moisture than your average body lotion. Not to mention, body butters made from seed or nut oils are completely free of parabens or other harsh chemicals we do not want our skin to absorb. [Read: 15 Toxins in Your Personal Care Products]
Protection:
Body butters will form a layer of protection, locking in moisture and protecting the skin from the elements. Dry, chapped and irritated skin can be completely corrected using a high quality, organic body butter. The skin is much safer when we use products that help create a barrier of protection.
Nourishing Vitamins:
Body butters, especially coconut, are very high in omega 3 fatty acids. Omega 3 is very moisturizing; calming irritation or inflammation. Body butters also contain high levels of antioxidants such as vitamin A, C and E, helping promote healthy new skin and cell renewal, stimulating the healing process.
Skin Softener:
Because of all the hard work your body butter will be providing the skin, you will notice that the skin becomes baby soft. This is a result of helping treat real skin conditions, including dry, cracked skin, bumpy or inflamed skin, as well, the ingredients in your body butter will activate the skins regenerating process, healing and building new tissue.
Whipped Coconut Body Butter Recipe
The Benefits of Coconut oil:
Coconut oil has been regarded as one of the most beneficial oils to use in our diets as well as on our skin. The benefits are outstanding.
Its high in Vitamin E gives it the ability to hydrate and nourish the skin. Coconut oil will prevent the skin from cracking while softening and smoothing hardened skin.
I love to use my whipped coconut butter on my dry feet and elbows. The small molecular structure of coconut oil allows for easy absorption deep into the skin, great for distressing conditions like eczema and psoriasis.
This recipe will help combat dry, cracked and irritated skin. The added Vitamin E oil will increase the moisture and protection needed for harsh skin conditions.
Ingredients:
(click the ingredient for our recommended product)
- 1 Cup Coconut oil
- 1 Teaspoon Vitamin E oil
- 7 drops of Lavender essential oil
*Note: You can use 7 drops of your favorite essential oil. I choose Lavender for its healing effects on the skin.
Instructions:
- Put all ingredients into a mixing bowl (leave coconut oil hard, do not melt. This will allow the oil to whip to a buttery consistency)
- Mix on high speed with a wire whisk for 5-7 minutes or until whipped to a light airy consistency.
- Spoon your new delicious body butter into a glass jar and keep the lid tightly closed.
- Store at room temperature or in the fridge so the oil does not melt.
How to Use:
Apply generously to any area of skin needed. Make new batches as needed. Each batch should be used within 2 months.
This is a simple recipe that can be changed up very easily by adding different essential oils to your coconut oil and vitamin E base. You can read our article The Best Essential Oils for Skin Care for more amazing oils you can add.

Hi Maria 🙂
I want to try your recipe… but I am a little confused. May I ask you, aprox. how much means to you… in gram or ounce…. a “1 Cup Coconut oil” ?!?
Thanks a lot
Hello Eisele, thanks for your question 🙂 I looked at an online chart and have found that 1 cup of coconut oil is 209 grams. Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.
