Where to Find Coconut Oil

April 13, 2016 by Maria Leave a Comment

Coconut oil is a very popular product and for good reason. It has a vast assortment of benefits for the skin. Coconut oilBenefits of coconut oil is readily available in many different forms on the shelves of our grocery and drug stores, but we still ask the question “where to find coconut oil” referring to the best possible kind available to use in our everyday skin care regime.

The fact of the matter is there are too many products to choose from. We have to sift through to find the best, pure and highest quality, providing us with the most extensive benefits. It is important to find coconut oil of excellent quality to avoid any unnecessary additives that could cause the skin irritation or the absorption of toxins.

That is what I plan to help you with in this article. I will provide you with the information and education you need to know to answer the question, “where to find coconut oil” and what coconut oil you can feel confident purchasing.

Why is Coconut Oil so good for the skin?

Coconuts are a beautiful, fresh fruit that most of us really love. Its unique taste and scent is intoxicating. The fruit bares milk as well as meat, giving us more variety of use. Protected by a hard shell is the well-guarded heart that gives us rich nutrients and highly valuable benefits. Coconut oil is rich in:

  • Antioxidants: Coconut oil is rich in natural antioxidants—so many that it is one of the longest-lasting oils you can get. It resists rancidity. That means that the natural antioxidants are also going to help protect your skin from free radical damage, preserving a more youthful look. These antioxidants are also reputed to help reduce the redness and limit the damage of sun exposure.
  • Nutrients: Coconut oil is a good source of vitamins A, C, and E, which all have antioxidant capabilities as well as moisturizing and brightening properties. Vitamin C, as you probably know, also helps to maintain collagen production, reducing skin sagging and fading fine lines.
  • Saturated fat: Coconut oil contains 92% saturated fat, with half of that being lauric acid. Lauric acid is the main saturated fat contained in human breast milk, it is what gives breast milk it’s immune boosting properties. This contributes to improved immune function.
  • Antibacterial: Coconut oil has the ability to kill bacteria not only on the surface of the skin but deep where bacteria can do the most damage, in the pores causing breakouts and inflammation. Because Coconut oil kills bacteria, it gives it the unique benefit of pulling debris and toxins from the skin. Making it a natural exfoliant and makeup remover.

Coconut oil continues to amaze us, as we are still researching and learning more about the benefits it provides. We understand the wonderful topical benefits, and we are always learning much more about its internal benefits. Coconut oil is a versatile oil that should be included in our everyday lives.

Is Coconut oil a Comedogenic oil?

An important note to consider for people who struggle with acne breakouts is that Coconut oil is high on the list as a comedogenic oil. (pore clogging) Although it does help kill the bacteria that contributes to the cause of acne, it can block the pores and further the issue of breakouts. I would highly recommend reading our articles:

Learning whether Coconut oil is beneficial for acne prone skin has been a bit of a trial basis. Some of the clients I see have been finding success with products that contain Coconut oil like Eminence Coconut Milk Cleanser while others find it causes their pores to clog. The clogging seems to be temporary.

I feel if you could use Coconut oil and enjoy the benefits, but only leave it on the skin for a short period of time, followed by a dead sea mud mask to prevent the pores from becoming clogged. You can learn much more about Coconut oil and acne prone skin in the above article.

Buyers Guide to the best Coconut oilWhere to find coconut oil

So what do you need to look for when considering coconut oil? There are many brands out there and a lot of them do make great quality products. However, you really want to avoid coconut oil that is mixed with other ingredients or additives.

You also want to be sure your oil is unrefined, virgin, organic and sustainably made. Processing of the oil will break down the nutrients making it very ineffective.

Always be sure your oil is:
