Top 10 Uses for Essential Oils

October 4, 2014 Maria 2 Comments

I use essential oils daily, There is always somewhere or something I can find a use for these potent plant extracts. I have a very large collection thanks to my many years in massage therapy and aromatherapy practice.

Essential oils have amazing benefits. I honestly could not write a full bio on these sweet scents. What I would suggest is the PDR for Essential oils. A book I always reference to. It will serve you well.

A very important point to make when you are adding to your library, be absolutely sure you are investing in a therapeutic grade oil. Do not buy an essence oil or aroma oil, it must be 100% therapeutic, or you will be wasting your money and not getting the true benefits of the oil.

If you are looking for pure oils I recommend The Detox Market. They sell pure, therapeutic grade, organic oils.

Here are the top 10 uses for essential oils

1) Place a few drops of grapefruit or lavender oil on a cotton ball and place in a cupboard or hidden place to add a nice aroma. I also suggest dropping a few blends into the bottom of your garbage can. Such a nice touch to the usual bad odor.

2) Drop a sleepy aid oil such as lavender or roman chamomile onto a cotton ball and tuck it into your pillow case to help improve dreamy sleeps.

3) Add your oils to the mop water, or vacuum filter.

4) Drop a few drips of oil into the humidifier. Be sure to add it to the water not the filter. Over time you will want to wash the container with mild soap to prevent any build up the oils may cause.

5) For a delightful perfume, mix 25 drops of lavender, patchouli, sandalwood, geranium, or grapefruit into 1 oz. of good quality vodka. ( And, mix a small drink for yourself :)) Let age 2 weeks before using. Apply as a spray on neck, wrists, behind knees or ears.

6) Make a Yoga mat cleanser. 12 drops sweet orange, 6 drops tea tree and 6 drops lavender with 4 oz. of purified water in a spray bottle. Shake the bottle and mist over your mat. Wipe clean with a soft towel before and after each use. You can also use this recipe for most any surface.

7) Replace commercial hand sanitizers with lemon oil. Rubbing your palms and fingers with a couple of drops of lemon oil kills germs and is much kinder to your body .(Please avoid touching your eyes until it calms down) You can also add lemon oil to a cream or oil to help with dry skin.

8) Sprinkle a couple of drops of frankincense to your firewood and let it dry before burning. It has a beautiful aroma and sets a rich ambiance.

9) You can add essential oils to your dogs collar. Be certain the oil you choose is gentle and safe including lavender, or ylang ylang. Rub in only one drop to the collar. I also suggest using it during the day so they are not irritated by the smell at night. This will help improve the smell of your pup.

10) Create a relaxing oasis in the home. You can use essential oil burners, or drop a drip into a wax candle. Amazing aromas create a space of comfort, relaxation, stress free and seductive moods.

Some very simple ways to start using Essential oils. This doesn’t even skim the surface of what these powerful earth elements are capable of. I will always be adding more information about Essential oils, so you can learn more along the way. There is a wealth of knowledge available to you in my recommended reading section. And always know you can ask me questions or comment.

To a Bright and Beautiful You,

Maria.
