There are many things – external and internal – that affect the quality of your hair. Due to misinformation and inability to find the right products often we fail to nourish our hair as it needs which is why here I’d like to share with you a brilliant way to reverse the damage.
If you ask yourself why coconut oil is so amazing in nourishing your hair, here are the facts:
Why Is Coconut Oil So Beneficial?
Ever since it was discovered, there have been more than a thousand studies conducted on it, all proving it indeed is a superfood. So, besides its ability to prevent Alzheimer’s disease, heart disease and high blood pressure, coconut oil can help your skin and hair get the hydration and nourishment they need. Namely, the frequent use of coconut oil as your hair mask will give you a lush, shiny hair, easy to maintain and comb, preventing it from breakage, so you won’t have to cut it regularly to get rid of split ends.
With its high content in minerals and vitamins, this oil improves scalp health, fights infections and fungus, supports hair growth, all while adding volume and shine without the common harmful chemicals. Can it get any better than that?
Deep-Conditioning Coconut Oil Hair Mask
There are many variations and different coconut-oil-based masks, however, by experience, this one is the most effective one that will give you full benefits in a short period of time.
- Grind the avocado chunks and make a smooth puree with the coconut milk without any lumps
- Add the liquefied coconut oil to this puree and mix well.
- Apply this mixture to your hair thoroughly and leave for an hour at least.
- Wash your hair with warm water and make sure to remove the avocado residue.
The reason why I like to add avocados to this mask is that they are best known for their nourishing property. And if by chance you have a dry and frizzy hair, then avocados are your best shot as an addition. Plus they add a nice texture to the mask, making it easier to apply.
What I learned by experience is that raw coconut milk and oil are what you need to get all the benefits. So if your oil isn’t melted when you’re making the mask and the coconut milk is also hard, try to melt them by putting them in a container of hot water. Do not boil them directly because they lose their functional properties.
Another thing that will make a difference is the amount of time you leave the mask on your hair. If you have an extremely dry hair and you’re just starting out, I recommend leaving it on overnight. Apply the mask, put a plastic bag or a bathing hat on your head and sleep on it. If you are unable to do this, then try to leave it for more than 2 hours – as much as you can. This will give the nourishment a kick start, and you’ll notice the difference right away.
