Toners should definitely be a part of your daily skin care routine, regardless of your skin type. A good facial toner can help provide your skin with what it needs to look younger, fresher and smoother.

You may be wondering why you should use a toner and how to find the right one for your dry skin. Once you understand how toners work, what ingredients to avoid, and what ingredients are needed to produce a healthy radiant glow, you will find that a toner is a great addition to your daily skin care routine.

Why Should I use a Toner?

Toners are meant to be used after cleansing. They were recommended for restoring your skins pH level after the alkalizing effects of soap, but because we are looking at water-based toners, this effect isn’t relevant. Your skin will naturally restore it’s own pH level.

The main benefit of using a toner is to help repair and restore your skin’s surface. You have just cleansed it and now your skin is hungry. It is time to feed it nourishing ingredients, antioxidants and essential fatty acids. Your skin can’t get enough.

The right toner is an excellent way to give your skin just what it needs to maintain it’s healthy integrity. The result is smoother, softer and younger looking skin.

Ingredients to Avoid

People with dry skin tend to stay away from toners, because of their drying nature. Why would you want to use something that dries your face up when your skin is already dry? The answer is to find the right toner that isn’t drying, but rather adds moisture to your skin.

  • Alcohol based toners are a big no-no. Avoid toners containing alcohol and witch hazel because they are drying. They also irritate the skin and cause free-radical damage.

Excellent Ingredients for Dry Skin Toners

  • Skin-Repairing Ingredients: glycerin, sodium hyaluronate (hyraluronic acid), and fatty acids.
  • Cell-Communicating ingredients such as niacinamide.
  • Antioxidants.
  • Aloe Vera is a great nourishing ingredient.
  • Ceramides to restore the skin barrier.

Which Toner is Right For My Dry Skin?

I recommend the following toners for use on dry skin:

  • Osmia Organics Active Gel Toner
  • Odacite Aloe + Immortelle Hydra-Repair Treatment Mist
  • Indie Lee CoQ-10 Toner
  • Apoterra Rose Hydrating Toner

Conclusion

This toner preps the skin for optimal serum penetration. It stimulates cell renewal, fortifies elasticity and boosts collagen synthesis. It is a lightweight elixir providing astounding hydration and rejuvenation.

You need a toner with the right ingredients, one that will moisturize rather then dry out your skin further.

A stellar toner formula can be an integral part of your skin care routine. You may be skeptical about the benefits of using a toner on your dry skin, but I assure you, if you give a good toner a try, you will see positive results.

This one would probably be good, I would definitely say to stay away from toners with alcohol and other irritating ingredients (which this one is free of). I would also recommend a soothing oil or balm for this type of condition. May Lindstrom makes a balm called the Blue Cocoon that is meant to soothe and calm irritated skin, and it smells divine!

Thanks for bringing to my attention Yuli Metamorphic Elixir…it looks like the right skin toner for me. I really like organic products and with the winter weather my skin tends to feel drier than ever. This looks like an awesome product!

Yes it is definitely a great boost for your skin. Using a toner prepares your skin well for the next step, which is a serum or moisturizer.

Thank you for sharing this. I normally struggle with oily skin, but the winter has turned my skin super dry. I have no idea what to do since it’s normally so oily, but I’ll definitely check this product out.

I would recommend a serum or facial oil for dry winter skin. You could get one that is made for oily skin so that it doesn’t make your skin go totally out of whack. Since discovering serums, I can’t go back to moisturizers! I love serums!

Hello Yesenia, I would recommend looking for a moisturizer and toner that are free of alcohol. It is difficult for me to recommend a product for you without knowing the cause of your atopic dermatitis. Are you allergic to anything? I would say keep it really simple. Stick to very basic formulas with only a few ingredients. Maybe try using rose water as a toner and for a moisturizer, try this one by Christina Moss Naturals, it is alcohol free.

I hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions!
