face mapping

There’s much more to beauty than just a pretty face, but persistent zits can certainly be a major eye-sore. And not just an eyesore, mind you: according to face mapping, a theory based on traditional Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine, recurring acne breakouts targeting specific parts of the face can point to health problems below skin level, such as internal organ malfunction and toxin buildup.

In order to clear your complexion once and for all, take a good look in the mirror and use this brief guide to identify and address the underlying cause of the problem. You’ll be surprised with just how many insights into your health status your face can give away.

Written on your forehead

According to Ayurveda, the forehead is the center of the Vata dosha, a combination of elements of air and ether which govern movement in the body, including circulation, bodily waste discharge, breathing, and mental flow. For this reason, persistent forehead pimples are seen as a telltale sign of inadequate diet, accumulation of toxins in the liver, problems with bladder and excretion system, and high stress levels.

In order to clear up the forehead, you can take the following steps.

• Switch to raw food or vegan diet to reduce intake of artificial ingredients.
• Increase daily water intake to promote toxin flushing from the body.
• Use probiotic supplements to boost digestive function and waste discharge.
• Clean your plate of processed food, alcohol, caffeine, and tobacco.
• Sign up for yoga or meditation class or learn stress management skills to keep tension at bay and prevent both acne and dandruff.

The telltale arch breakouts

Acne along the eyebrow arch and the area in between the eyebrows are usually interpreted as symptoms of high toxin content in the body, slow elimination of contaminants (i.e. kidney and liver issues), and suppressed negative emotions such as anger, anxiety, and stress. Recurring eyebrow breakouts on the right side of the face are interpreted as signs of emotional buildup in the liver, while persistent zits along the left eyebrow arch point to toxin saturation in the spleen.

Efficient and lasting elimination of eyebrow pimples requires for one of the following measures:

• Skipping dairy and meat to lower intake of Vitamin B 12 which encourages acne;
• Increasing intake of clear water and organic juices to detoxify the organism;
• Cutting down on alcohol, cigarettes, salt, sugar, refined fat, and caffeine;
• Spending more time in fresh air exercising, meditating, or walking;
• Eating more fresh foods, such as whole grains, vegetables, and fruit.

Sniffing trouble below deck

According to Ayurveda, the nose is the area where blood system and heart issues meet the light of day. Therefore, breakouts clinging to the nose can point to circulation, blood pressure, and/or cardiovascular hitches, all of which are serious enough to turn your eyes from your face to your internal organs and the turmoil they are going through.

Once you sniff trouble below skin level, you can do a few things to prevent large-scale damage before it’s too late.

• Enrich your plate with foods that promote detoxification, such as garlic, cayenne peppers, chili, and reishi mushrooms.
• Ditch substance abuse (quit smoking, go easy on the bottle, lay off coffee, etc.).
• Increase intake of dietary ingredients rich in essential amino acids.
• Drink more clear water to boost exchange of nutrients in the cells.
• Use organic skin moisturizers to keep skin around the nose hydrated and well-nourished.

Cheek breakouts are not chic at all

Cheeks are the abode of the Pitta dosha, a blend of water and fire elements that control energy and transformative processes in the body (i.e. metabolism, breathing, and digestive system). In this context, cheek zits are a red flag that traces back to lung glitches, exposure to air pollutants, asthma, excess smoking, or less than optimal metabolic rate.
Here’s what you can do to banish zits from your cheeks once and for all.

• Structure your menu around green vegetables such as broccoli, cucumber, and kale.
• Take up a workout to accelerate metabolic rate and boost toxin flushing from the body.
• Stock up your plate with zesty foods and ingredients high in iron and folic acid.
• Try applying aloe vera-based masks and creams to the cheeks to minimize risk of acne.

Don’t let acne rob your silky lips of kisses

In Chinese medicine, the lower lip is connected to small intestine, which means that discolored spots and chronic zits in the lip area are usually a symptom of intestinal problems. Lip-locked breakouts and paleness can also be a sign of intestinal parasites, anemia, and enzymatic action hitches in the gastrointestinal tract.
To restore the silky touch to your lips, make the following routines a habit:

• Don’t touch your lips too often to avoid contaminating sensitive skin with bacteria;
• Stock up your plate with foods high in iron to bring out their soft, healthy glow;
• Amp intake of probiotic-rich foods to secure healthy gut function;
• Use organic lip balms to keep lips hydrated and well-nourished.

Keep your chin up and clear of pimples

The Kapha dosha governs lubrication, lung function, weight, and tissue growth in the body, and it resides in the lower part of the face (i.e. chin, jaw, and neckline). According to face mapping, chronic zits that refuse to budge from your chin and jaw are indicators of hormonal misbalance, chronic fatigue, and accumulated stress. According to Ultraceuticals skincare experts, pimples caused by hormonal problems aren’t limited to teenage population only: in fact, more than 50% of women aged 20-29 and over 25% of ladies aged 40-49 suffer from persistent breakouts in the lower part of the face.

Here’s what you can do to prevent recurrence of chin-borne zits and bolster your overall health.

• Take up meditation, yoga, sun-gazing, or tai-chi to restore inner balance and stability.
• Get more sleep to recharge your internal batteries and keep fatigue at bay.
• Take up a sport to restore hormonal balance and alleviate acne-causing stress.
• Cut dairy and meat intake to prevent excess hormonal oscillations.
• Increase intake of fruit and vegetables to prevent exhaustion and promote detoxification.

The next time you check your lipstick or mascara in the mirror, pause for a moment and map the pimples on your face. In case zits are a chronic occurrence in a specific area even with your best skincare efforts, it can be a sign of a deeper problem down below. Based on the guidelines listed above, you can get a relatively good insight into your physical and emotional health. Don’t wait for your face to clear up of its own accord: take active steps today and banish blemishes from the inside out.

You’re welcome.
