DIY Natural Mascara

March 1, 2022 by Amina Leave a Comment

Natural mascara allows you to lift, volumize, and lengthen lashes without harsh chemicals. Somedays, all you need is a good mascara and a lip gloss to look fresh and fabulous. Until about mid-day when the mascara has clumped, glued, smeared, or fallen flat and you’re left with burning eyes and look like a raccoon.

It’s okay, we’ve all been there. But there’s no need to revisit that ever again. With NIT natural mascara you can layer, reapply, and bat your lashes with confidence. No more irritation or allergic reactions. With just a few clean ingredients that you can find in your pantry, your most important eye makeup application just became healthier and prettier.

The Dangers of Conventional Mascara
Mascara is applied very close to incredibly sensitive eyelids and eyeballs. What is inside your mascara will impact your eye health and potentially your sight. Unfortunately, conventional mascara is competing for high-volume, long-lasting action and less so about the longevity of your vision.

Unlike natural mascara, conventional mascara includes high concentrations of fluorine in waterproof mascara. Sure, we all want to prevent the dark drip of leaky lashes but at what cost? Parabens, phthalates, petroleum products, and dioxane are other leading offenders. But that’s just the tip of the toxic iceberg. There are 29 other chemicals known as per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) found in leading conventional mascara products.

To be fair, they’re not trying to poison you (even though that’s what’s happening). These chemicals are used to preserve the product and deliver on the product’s dazzling promises.

Fortunately, you can have the plump without the poison. With these easy Do It Yourself Natural Mascara Recipes, your lashes will be in tip-top shape without compromising your health or the environment.

Some of our favorite DIY Natural Mascara Recipes.

Black and Bold Natural Mascara

Ingredients:

  • Sanitized mascara container with a lash brush
  • 2 tablespoon extra-virgin coconut oil or avocado oil
  • 4 tablespoons aloe vera gel
  • 3 teaspoons beeswax, grated
  • Activated charcoal: ½ teaspoon for light black mascara, 1 teaspoon for black mascara, and 1 teaspoon cacao powder for brown

Instructions:

  1. Melt oil, aloe gel, and beeswax in a double boiler or saucepan on low heat. Stir gently and continuously.
  2. Turn off heat and add coloring of choice and blend.
  3. Funnel mixture into mascara container.
  4. Store in fridge.
  5. Remove from fridge minute before use for smooth application.

This DIY natural mascara recipe leaves lashes full and healthy with natural, deep color. Coconut oil is naturally antibacterial so no worrying about the styes that surface when you use an old, conventional mascara. The aloe gel is a natural way to lift, hold, and separates lashes so they don’t clump together. It also helps hydrate the follicles so no more dryness and irritation.

Lengthening Lash Natural Mascara

Ingredients:

  • 2 tsp charcoal
  • 1 tsp bentonite clay
  • 2 tsp glycerin
  • 2 tsp shea butter
  • ½ tsp beeswax
  • ½ tsp coconut oil (fractionated if possible)
  • 1 drop rosemary essential oil
  • 1 drops lavender essential oil
  • 1 drop castor oil
  • 1 drop Vitamin E oil

Instructions:

  1. Melt beeswax, shea butter, coconut oil, and glycerin in a double boiler or saucepan on low heat. Stir gently and continuously.
  2. Turn off heat and add charcoal and bentonite clay.
  3. Remove from heat and at essential and vitamin oils.
  4. Funnel mixture into mascara container.
  5. Store in fridge.
  6. Remove from fridge minute before use for smooth application.

If you’d like a thicker mascara for more intensity and stronger hold, add a pinch of clay. If you’d like your mascara to have a little slip to it, add a drop of melted coconut oil. Lavender and rosemary essential oil give this DIY natural mascara recipe a clean, floral fragrance and add to its lengthening benefits. Vitamin E and Castor oils are the real MVPs. Remove the charcoal and turn your DIY natural mascara into a lash lengthening serum to wear at night.
