The Product: Eminence Yam and Pumpkin Enzyme Peel
Is Eminence Yam and Pumpkin Enzyme Peel the right peel for you? In this review we will be looking to determine who this peel is right for, and if this peel is working for those who have purchased it.

Eminence recommends the yam pumpkin peel for all skin types except in active acne areas, although, digging deeper into my research I have found that most dermatologist and skin care experts have suggested the use of a natural enzyme peel even in a more active acne skin type, suggesting that the skin will benefit from a natural peel.
For the many people who cannot tolerate harsh AHA or BHA peels, abrasives, friction or mechanical exfoliation such as microdermabrasion, enzyme peels are the perfect alternatives. Enzyme peels do not further inflame irritated skin or sensitive skin, in fact, the use of an enzyme peel will infuse your skin with nutrients and hydration, while an enzyme peel also helps exfoliate and detoxify the skin. It will refine pores, smooth the skin and encourage blemishes to heal.
Those with very sensitive, dark, acne, dry, rough, sun damaged skin can benefit from enzyme peels.
- Exfoliating pumpkin and yam enzymes easily and gently dissolve away dead surface cells and impurities, revealing newer, more radiant skin.
- Yam enzyme has detoxifying properties and provides natural skin brightening agents that help condition skin.
How to Use
Apply a thin layer to clean dry skin. Allow to sit for 10-15 minutes then gently massage with fingertips to loosen dead skin cells.
In case of excessive stinging or irritation, remove the product quickly with a towel soaked in cool water. Follow with cotton pads soaked in the Soothing Chamomile Tonique to deactivate the peel. Rinse again with towels soaked in cool water.
This mask comes highly recommended from those who have used it and liked it. Many people find that they like this enzyme mask. They say that it smells delicious, and is gentle, yet strong enough to make their skin glow. Eminence’s Yam and Pumpkin Enzyme Peel gives you an at home facial.
- works great without damaging the skin
- removes the top layer of dead skin cells
- weekly usage can help keep your skin clear
- cleans out pores
- face is left feeling soft
- creamy and smooth texture
- lovely smell – like pumpkin pie
- DIY at home facial
- helps with hyperpigmentation
- reveals new, fresh skin
There have been some complaints about this product, including people experiencing reactions to it, such as dry skin or redness and people being irritated because they did not know that you are supposed to follow the enzyme mask with the use of the Soothing Chamomile Tonique (or some other PH balancing toner).
- doesn’t work as strongly as some people would like
- must use a tonique afterwards to “deactivate” the peel
- some people have a reaction to this product (dry or red skin)
- people have complained that the product varies from batch to batch
Some people have not found this peel to be robust enough. It contains only 5% glycolic acid, so most of the work is being done by the enzymes in the yam and pumpkin purees. If you are used to using a stronger peel, this one may not seem strong enough. It is meant for home use, so it has been formulated to be used by anyone. Stronger peels are meant to be used by professionals.
Using a Tonique
After going through many reviews, I have come across comments stating that you need to buy the Soothing Chamomile Tonique to stop the peeling process. This is an important consideration. Others have suggested that it is not necessary. I personally would buy the soothing tonique from Eminence just to maintain keeping to one product line, as it is likely to be formulated to work together.
I recommend using some type of PH balance tonic after a peel to restore the balance of the skin. This is common practice after any facial involving an enzyme or other peels. Simply mist on a PH balancing tonic to stop the activity of the working enzymes and avoid over stimulation of the skin. We must remember that a peel is highly active.
The people who are experiencing reactions to this product are probably reacting to the glycolic acid. This chemical exfoliate can be too harsh for some people’s skin. It can cause irritation if your skin is too sensitive, or if you overuse the product, or use it with another chemical exfoliate such as a salicylic acid cleanser
When using products containing glycolic acid, you must remember to moisturize, this will minimize dry skin. Glycolic acid is making your skin slough of skin cells and causing an increase in cellular turnover. This can lead to flaking, and is a normal reaction.
Another interesting point to consider when purchasing any product from Eminence is the consistency. I have come across people saying that their friends had the same product and they looked different in color and texture.
Eminence hand makes their products in batches. Each batch may differ from one another based on the actual ingredients themselves. A batch of pumpkin enzyme peel with a darker color would result from a collection of darker pumpkins. This makes total sense to me, as they are making each batch separately to keep the product fresh without harsh preservatives. We must keep in mind that a darker batch still contains the highly active ingredients as would a lighter batch.

Beware Counterfeit Sellers
Do not buy your Eminence products on Amazon. True and fresh Eminence products are only available at authorized spas and by authorized distributors. There are many complaints on Amazon about product inconsistencies and this is probably why – they are buying their products from unauthorized sellers.
Amazon sellers are not authorized, meaning that the products they are selling are either imitations or they are outdated products. This means you can only buy Eminence from someone who has been authorized.
Luckily, I have found an online shop that is authorized to sell Eminence – Amy’s Organic Skin Care.
After extensive research on who this product would benefit and how well Eminence Yam and Pumpkin Enzyme Peel works, I have concluded that this peel would be a great addition to anyone looking to “resurface” their skin naturally.
Pumpkin and Yam are considered highly active in promoting cell turn over and anti aging benefits. Glycolic acid is a gentle but effective chemical exfoliate that clears away dead skin cells and keeps pores clear.
This product offers gentle enough activity that even sensitive skin types can use it. We have seen that others are finding great success in using this peel. I am confident that even after considering the negatives of this peel, more people than not are happy and satisfied after continual use.
