papaya seed oil

Papaya is not just a delicious and tropical fruit to enjoy when you’re off on your holidays! Did you know that papaya seed oil is actually super-beneficial to your skin too? You could even go as far as to call it a hidden gem, a true beauty secret.

Papaya is also known as paw paw, but its seed oil is what we need to be focused on. The oil itself doesn’t have a smell, and it is light yellow in colour. It is not at all greasy, which means it is ideal for those who have oily or greasy skin themselves - it won’t add to the problem!

The oil is very easily absorbed and is very light. Its main benefits are the huge amount of vitamins it manages to pack into itself, namely vitamins A, B, C, and E.

So, we know the fruit it comes from, we know it’s light and not at all greasy, and we know what vitamins are inside it - what are the main skin benefits of papaya seed oil?

Skin Benefits of Papaya Seed Oil

A Great Exfoliator

Avoid having to buy expensive and sometimes harsh exfoliating products, by using the natural exfoliating effects of papaya seed oil instead. The effects are quite gentle but powerful at the same time, so you’re not going to end up with a raw complexion afterward. The papain contained within the oil will help to get into and break down dead skin cells and draw out built-in dirt in the pores. You will be left with smooth and soft skin afterward.

Can Help with Hyper-pigmentation

If you have an uneven tone to your skin or you suffer from dark areas on your face, i.e. hyperpigmentation, then papaya seed oil could help you. Regular use of the oil directly to the skin, or mixed with an essential oil, will show a clear improvement over a few weeks.

Brightens The Skin’s Complexion

Again, regular use of papaya seed oil on the skin will make a huge difference to dullness and lifelessness. After a while, the skin will seem lightened and brighter. If you have been traveling a lot lately, you’ve been feeling under the weather or tired, and you have dark or grey skin patches, try it out and see for yourself!

Can Help With Acne

The anti-inflammatory properties of papaya seed oil, combined with its ability to reduce scars and brighten skin overall, is ideal for those who suffer from acne. We mentioned earlier that the oil doesn’t block the pores, and this is because it has a low comedogenic factor. Additional sebum will not be added to the mix by using the oil,  and you can even use the oil as a great treatment for regular spots and pimples too.

Any acne scars that are already visible will also be relieved by using the oil, because of its vitamin A, C, and E content. These are ideal for reducing scar appearance, so regular use will certainly make a difference.

Reduces Inflammation

Papaya seed oil has great anti-inflammatory powers, so if you’re suffering from redness, inflammation, or even tight skin, the oil can help out. Also, if you’re suffering from a breakout of a large pimple, perhaps a very painful one, applying the oil will have quite fast-acting results.

Use Papaya Seed Oil at Night

The best time to use papaya oil is certainly during the evening. This is because when you’re sleeping, your skin is repairing itself and regenerating, so the oil will be able to do its work much better in conjunction with the natural healing process.

You can use the oil directly onto your skin or mix it with your favorite essential oil, the choice is entirely yours. Because the oil isn’t heavy and doesn’t clog up the pores, you won’t feel like an oily residue has been left on your skin after use, although cleaning with a warm, damp cloth will help to open pores and remove any dirt or grime which the oil has loosened and removed.

Papaya seed oil might not be the most well known of the skin miracle oils we have come to know about, but it’s certainly one that deserves to be in that category. As a hidden skincare gem, this is definitely a favourite!

Where to buy Papaya Seed Oil

Look for a cold-pressed papaya seed oil for the best quality. We like this one by Botanical Beauty avaiable on Amazon.
