The best organic toners for dry skin are formulated with natural ingredients that can deliver a healthy dose of essential nutrients to our skin, along with a much-needed boost of hydration to dry skin types. From soothing and hydrating our skin, to removing makeup and balancing pH, a great organic toner can work wonders for clearing and improving the skin’s overall condition.
At one point or another, we’ve all asked ourselves: Do we need to use toner?
The short answer is yes, you do.
Regardless of skin type, toner is an essential part of any skincare routine. However, conventional toners are formulated with harsh ingredients that could potentially irritate or strip our skin of the moisture that it needs to look its best. OR even worse, they could aggravate existing skin problems!
Looking for the best organic toners for dry skin? Here’s some useful information to guide you through it!
Ingredients to Look for in a Toner for Dry Skin
Aloe vera
Aloe vera is best known for its healing effects on the skin. Rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals like potassium and magnesium, it has anti-inflammatory and soothing properties that helps support our skin health.
It also has the ability to help our skin retain its moisture by increasing the water content on its surface layer, which is especially beneficial for dry skin types.
Rose water
Rose water has strong anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, which aids the skin in its natural healing process. It’s full of antioxidants, which means that it protects our cells from free radical damage. It also has a soothing effect on skin, which can help calm down redness or breakouts.
Glycerin
Glycerin works as a humectant to keep our skin hydrated. It helps our skin retain its moisture by drawing the moisture from our surroundings and locking it in. It also has the ability to help other key ingredients penetrate deeper into our skin.
Hyaluronic acid
Hyaluronic acid is also a humectant. It works wonders for giving dry or dehydrated skin a boost of hydration. Hyaluronic acid is an important ingredient to incorporate into any anti-aging skincare routine. It has strong antioxidant properties, which is essential to achieving a youthful, radiant complexion.
Plant Hydrosols
When essential oils are extracted through the steam distillation process, the condensate is also collected. These plant hydrosols are less potent but they possess the same healing properties! When incorporated into skincare, plant hydrosols can support our skin health by hydrating, soothing, and balancing skin.
Ingredients to Avoid in Toners for Dry Skin
High amounts of alcohol
Alcohol-based products can strip our skin of the vital elements that are essential for maintaining healthy skin! These products are incredibly harsh and they can damage the skin’s protective barrier. They may also irritate skin, or cause enlarged pores and bumps.
Exfoliating agents
Regular exfoliation is an important step in any skincare routine. However, dry skin types should stay away from exfoliating toners. Exfoliating toners work best for those with oily or acne-prone skin. Dry skin types will benefit from soothing, moisturizing toners that are designed to nourish and replenish moisture.
Harsh astringents
Harsh astringents are way too drying for dry skin types! For instance, standard witch hazel contains high levels of alcohol (ethanol), which can irritate or strip our skin of the moisture it desperately needs. Witch hazel has benefits in toners for dry skin, as long as there are moisturizing ingredients included in the formula.

Already using an organic toner? We always love hearing from you! Let us know in the comments about your own experience along with any tips you might have to share – and of course, if you have any questions.
You listed Witch Hazel as a harsh astringent and yet recommended the 100% Pure Sea Culture toner which has Witch Hazel as the second ingredient. Can you please advise? Thanks!
Hi there, thanks for your question 🙂 You are correct that the 100% Pure Sea Culture Toner contains witch hazel as its second ingredient. The other ingredients contained in this toner are quite moisturizing (glycerin and hyaluronic acid), so they counteract the potential drying of witch hazel. It also doesn’t include alcohol, which makes a toner much more drying to the skin. We don’t recommend using pure witch hazel as a toner, but having it in a toner can still be useful for dry skin as long as the other ingredients are moisturizing.
I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.
