As we age, our skin becomes more fragile, drier, and less elastic. Sounds pretty harsh—but, unfortunately, it’s true. Still, don’t lose your hope! You can have beautiful mature skin and reverse the effects of aging, too.
Enter: night creams!
During the day, the main thing we need is to protect the skin from pollutants and environmental toxins; at night, the skin goes into repair and rejuvenation mode. This is to fight off aging, rehydrate, and retain balance.
Since this is a natural process the skin goes through on a daily basis, why not make the most of it?
By using a night cream regularly, you’re actively encouraging the skin’s restoration process so that your skin can deepen its repair cycle. That means your skin can reduce its appearance of fine lines, bump up its hydration and moisture levels, and soak up antioxidants and nutrients.
Below, we’ve given a review of our seven favorite organic, natural night creams that have proven to be most effective for mature skin. We hope you find this list helpful and discover a new product to try!
Ingredients to Look for in a Night Cream
You don’t want to grab just any drugstore night cream; you want a night cream that promises to keep your skin healthy and toxin- and irritant-free. There are a number of ingredients we recommend when looking at night creams, including the following:
Aloe vera juice: For an extra boost of hydration, look for products that list this as the first ingredient.
Hyaluronic acid: Another all-star hydrator, hyaluronic acid is terrific at retaining skin hydration and suppleness. It’s naturally found in the body, and it holds up to 1,000 times its weight in water.
Coenzyme Q10 (“CoQ10”): As we age, we tend to become more deficient in CoQ10, which is unfortunate since it is a powerful antioxidant and collagen-booster. That’s why it’s a good idea to look for products that contain it. It will help reduce the effects of aging.
Vitamin E: This ingredient restores the skin from pollution, UV ray damage, and free radicals.
Ingredients to Avoid in Night Creams
Now that you’re aware of the ingredients you should look for in night creams, what are the ingredients you should avoid? Here’s our list of no-go ingredients:
Parabens: Known hormone disruptors that have led to breast cancer in a number of studies, you should definitely stray from away from anything ending in “paraben.”
Fragrance: Also clinically proven to disrupt hormones and cause reproductive issues, anything labeled as “fragrance” or “parfum” is a catchall for man-made, problematic chemicals. They can also lead to allergies.
Synthetic colors: Proven to cause cancer in humans as they are usually by-products of coal tar (yuck!).
7 Best Organic Night Creams of 2019
Awarded Allure 2017 Best of Beauty, the Goop Replenishing Night Cream, we’re swooning over this product for a reason. First, the formula is highly concentrated with soothing aloe and nourishing sandalwood nut oil and linseed extract, leading to a thick, velvety consistency. Second, even after a full eight hours of sleep, we’ve found our face gleaming and moisturized in the morning after use of this product.
This night cream is a little luxury we hope you can try. What it does overnight is magical, lifting and brightening the skin in noticeable ways.
A thick, creamy consistency and woodsy scent sets the Dr. Alkaitis Organic Night Crème apart from the pack. After using this product consistently for a few weeks, we’ve noticed fewer breakouts and less irritation, meaning more calmed skin.
Just a tiny amount is all you need to see the benefits firsthand. Waking up, you’ll notice smooth, relaxed, and ultra-hydrated skin. We love the inclusion of vitamin A and C complexes, and how the cream is potent with aloe, shea butter, and sacha inchi oil.
Watch your skin completely slurp up all the goodness that is Ursa Major’s Golden Hour Recovery Cream overnight: All that will be left is plump skin with a youthful glow.
Ursa Major claims that this cream reduces inflammation and wrinkles—and, boy, does this product deliver! We love how saturated it is with superstar aloe, and that the scent is reminiscent of a dewy, floral forest. Since it’s full of antioxidants, we’d recommend this cream to anyone frequently exposed to the elements or someone looking for a little extra skin restoration.
This is a nutrient-dense powerhouse, made super-effective due to CoQ10, vitamins A, C, and E, and omega-rich rosehip oil. Infused with green tea extract and aloe, the product also fights against inflammation and damage caused by free radicals.
With a light orange scent and a creamy consistency, this night cream exceeded our expectations in overnight skin repair. Especially in colder, dryer weather, the formula delivered impressive results in bringing the skin back to its naturally balanced state.
Sometimes simpler is better—and that’s the case with the BeeFriendly Rest & Repair Night Cream. The seven-ingredient formula includes organic raw honey and vitamin E for improved skin elasticity and overall skin tone.
Since this cream is highly concentrated, you won’t need more than the equivalent of the tip of your pinkie finger for a full night’s worth. We highly recommend this product for those of you who experience dry or lackluster skin.
For those of you with more mature skin, the Andalou Naturals Resveratrol Q10 Night Repair Cream takes the cake. As indicated by the name, resveratrol and CoQ10 are the key ingredients in this product, and they’re responsible for reversing the effects of aging.
Another rich option in the way of night creams, this product promotes rejuvenated and youthful-looking skin as it works to reduce wrinkles. Overall, this night cream contains healing properties, and it’s wallet-friendly!
Another wonderful option for those of you with mature skin, the Trilogy Replenishing Night Cream is boosted with bio-actives and glycation-fighting chia, blueberry, and pomegranate seed oils. This allows for the skin to build up more collagen, resulting in firmer, more supple skin.
Upon testing out this night cream, we were incredibly happy with how moisturized and soft our skin felt the next day after sleep. Even if your skin isn’t that dry, you can still benefit from this cream: The formula isn’t overly rich or thick.
If you’ve just been sticking to a day cream or an all-in-one cream as someone with mature skin, you may be missing out on a multitude of benefits found specifically in night creams.
With the use of a night cream, you’ll notice that your skin retains a higher amount of moisture, stays hydrated for longer periods of time, and appears more youthful and balanced. Night creams are typically formulated to contain higher levels of moisturizing ingredients, such as aloe vera juice and hyaluronic acid, that seriously quench parched skin. All of the products we mentioned here excel in how hydrating they are.
If you suffer from dry skin, or if you’d like to take a few years off your skin, give one of these products a try! Adding a night cream to your skincare regimen could make a world of a difference.
