Want a non-toxic eye cream to combat the signs of aging? See our top picks for the best organic eye creams of 2019 to repair and restore.
We know—quite the controversial topic recently, eye creams are. Simply asked: Are eye creams really that necessary as part of a beauty regimen?
If you want to take preventative measures and combat signs of aging (think fine lines, wrinkles, and dark spots), yes, you should be using an eye cream.
That’s to say, if you can afford an eye cream—and there are inexpensive options!—and you want to take care of your skin, we suggest getting yourself one of these eye creams listed below.
Why? Eye creams are expensive, after all!
We know, but hear us out: Since the skin surrounding the eyes is much more fragile than other parts of your face, a specially formulated moisturizer is required. The eyes are typically the first spots to show aging, so products that are more highly concentrated are needed to retain the skin’s moisture and maintain elasticity.
Ingredients to Look for in an Eye Cream
To be sure you’re getting the highest quality eye cream that doesn’t irritate your skin, make sure to look for these ingredients. These days, these ingredients are all the rage:
- Organic oils: Containing fatty acids to seep your skin with moisture and reduce puffiness, organic oils—such as rosehip, jojoba, and almond—work wonders to cast off dryness.
- Aloe vera: A deeply hydrating ingredient, aloe vera is also known to bring life back to dead skin cells.
- Hyaluronic acid: We can’t rave about hyaluronic acid enough! In its plant-based form, this power ingredient boasts a number of advantages with usage—one of those being ultra-hydrated skin.
- Essential oils: The safer alternative to fragrances. Eye creams formulated with essential oils give off extremely relaxing, therapeutic vibes.
Ingredients to Avoid in an Eye Cream
Now you know what to look for in eye creams … what about ingredients to avoid? Be sure to check the ingredients list for each product you buy to ensure you’re getting something that won’t be harmful. These are the ingredients you don’t want to have contact with:
- Parabens: Widely used in conventional eye creams for their preserving qualities, these guys are actually toxic and have been studied to be a cause of breast cancer.
- Phthalates: Not actually noted on the ingredient label, but these are often disguised as “fragrance” or “parfum.” Watch out for these as they are known to be disruptive to hormones.
- Synthetic colors: Sure, these make your conventional eye creams pretty to look at—but you don’t really want coal tar on your skin, do you? Typically, synthetic colors are created from a base of carcinogenic coal tar.
- Dimethicone: Widely used for its skin conditioning abilities, dimethicone causes both skin and eye irritation, which is especially problematic for users of eye creams.

Are eye-care necessary? I would say yes!I have seen my eyes after several weeks of constant computer screens and sometimes allergy to dust and I can tell you the effects were very visible on my face especially the eye area. I got a cream from the pharmacy and its like it only got worse. My eyes looked aged and so dry.
I think these organic options are the only solutions. At least I can be sure of no chemicals that can irritate the skin. Thank you for the list of ingredients to avoid when buying an eye cream.

Hello, which eye cream would you recommend for someone in their mid-20s for prevention with no visible eye concerns yet. It looks like all of them are must-trys and I’m finding a hard time figuring out the right one for me. Thanks!
Thanks for your question, it somewhat depends on your skin type, but I would recommend the Dr. Alkaitis Organic Eye Cream as it is good for all skin types, helps reduce puffiness and darkness, and keep the skin around the eyes hydrated to prevent fine lines.
