Cellulite, also know as orange peel skin, is a hereditary condition, many people do not realize this. It is triggered by hormone fluctuations usually during pregnancy or menopause. Cellulite is challenging to treat, and up to this point, still not possible to completely treat. However, there are ways to manage and reduce cellulite a great deal.
Understanding cellulite will help.
You can read my article The Anatomy of Cellulite. This will give you a detailed outline in understanding cellulite.
A day at the spa! At your home spa ๐
When treating cellulite we have to achieve 3 things:
- Vasodilation.
- Stimulation
- Detoxification
*Note, Stimulation to the skin will cause temporary erythema ( redness, inflammation ) to the skin. This will be soothed at the end of the treatment.
The general goal of cellulite treatment is to help stimulate the circulation and metabolism through vasodilation. The body rids itself of the excess fat cells and accumulated water that causes swelling and constriction of the capillary network necessary to flush toxins.
It takes several combined treatment modalities to help control and reduce cellulite, including,
- Consuming a high fiber diet
- Drinking plenty of water
- Performing active exercise ( targeting areaโs with the cellulite )
- Home treatment
- Massage
You must include such combined treatments to get excellent results. If you maintain all of the above guidelines you will have a dramatic change in your cellulite.
Cellulite Regime
Keeping to the day to day guidelines; Drinking water, exercise, and a high fiber diet, you will include a home treatment where all the magic happens! This is called spot treatment. You will specifically target the areas of concern. You will want to include this regime every other day.
Step 1: Clean the area. I recommend doing your spot treatments in the shower. The warm water will increase circulation.
Step 2: Body scrub time! You will need a good brush and a good exfoliating product. Here are the products I highly recommend. Check out more on The Benefits of Dry Brushing in my article.

Detoxifying Sea Scrub Fig+Yarrow
This sea scrub will help stimulate lymph flow and break down cellulite deposits. The clay, plants and essential oils will smooth and nourish the skin.
Directions for body scrub:
Apply your scrub and use your body brush in circular motions rotating back and forth clockwise and counter clockwise. Continue for 90 seconds on each area of concern. You want to brush vigorously, but do not continue if the skin starts to feel irritated. Rinse clean and move to next area until you have worked each section.
Optional step: Detox Wrap. You can perform this step after you are out from the shower and before you add your soothing cream.
Directions for detox wrap
Apply a detox mask to the areas of concern. This wrap can be added in once or twice a week along with maintaining the daily routine. You can use most any organic detoxifying mask product. Wrap the area with gentle pressure with a tensor bandage. Leave on for 15-30 minutes. Then move on to next step. *Note; You will want to pre-wash your tensors and wash them after each use.
Step 3: Apply your soothing cream or gel. This is were you will perform a massage. You do not want to skip this step. It is very important to continue stimulation. Massage your anti-cellulite cream into the areas of concern, working and kneading for about 90 seconds. You can choose any soothing cream you like.
Step 4: Relax! and let the body do its thing. Take this time to say a positive affirmation. Give yourself a hug. Tell yourself you are beautiful! Cellulite is not your life. You can improve it and achieve results, but remember you do not want to feel negative while treating your body. Enjoy the process. Enjoy the sent of your sea salt scrub, and enjoy the massage!
*Note; If at anytime during this regime you experience uncomfort or over treated skin, take a break! You may have over worked the area. Or simply remove your body brush and use your hands for a while when applying your scrub. ๐
