Serums are an excellent DIY tool for anti-aging because they are so easy to make. Unlike lotions and creams that require precise measurements and multiple steps, oil-based serums can be made with little to no fuss. There is no learning curve or room for error, just mix up your simple ingredients and you are ready to go.

These 5 anti-aging serum recipes are fun and simple to make, and they work! Oils are so great at nourishing and hydrating the skin. I find that my skin tolerates facial oils better than emulsified moisturizers, which tend to give me breakouts.

Give these recipes a try, you will not be disappointed.

First You Will Need Dropper Bottles

2 oz amber glass dropper bottle

I recommend using these dark amber dropper bottles for your serumsย

#1 Anti-Aging Night Serum

Rosehip seed oil is excellent for the skin, it is high in vitamin E and A. It is a light and “dry” oil, meaning it absorbs thoroughly. It decreases environmental damage and soothes the skin with its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Myrrh essential oil has an extremely high antioxidant count (second highest on the ORAC scale).

Ingredientsrosehips-eminence
  • 1 tablespoon rosehip seed oil
  • 1 tablespoon sunflower oil
  • 5 drops myrrh essential oil
  • 10 drops vitamin E oil
Instructions
  1. Mix all the ingredients and transfer to an amber dropper bottle
  2. At night, after makeup removal and while skin is still moist from cleansing, apply 2-3 drops all over face and neck.

#2 Magic Night Potion

A night time renewal oil that fights wrinkles, nourishes the skin, and leaves it feeling soft and smooth the next morning. Evening primrose oil combats wrinkles, while avocado oil nourishes with vitamin E and fatty acids. Pomegranate seed oil is high in antioxidants that protect and heal the skin. #3 Anti-Aging Serum for Sensitive Skin

An unscented facial oil that is formulated for sensitive skin. It is a powerful moisturizer and is packed with antioxidants. Sesame oil is well-tolerated by most skin types and contains sesamol, which has high antioxidant properties. Grape seed oil is high in antioxidants as well, it is a dry oil that absorbs quickly. Vitamin E will combat damage done to the skin by the elements.

#4 Prickly Pear Skin Repair

This is a unique facial oil that nourishes and repairs your skin. Snail gel contains a secretion produced by snails to aid them in repairing and renewing their skin. The nutrients snail gel contains can help fight skin aging in humans. Prickly pear oil stimulates cell renewal and increases elasticity. [Read: Prickly Pear Oil Benefits : Keep Your Skin Youthful]

I always enjoy posts with useful info and how to apply them. Thank you for the informative content! Although I don’t really plan on using this myself haha, I think some of my friends will be very interested.

Not sure if you’ve posted about this before, but have you heard of the caveman method to clearing up skin?

I have heard of the caveman method, where you do not wash your face at all. No soap or water is supposed to touch your face.

I do think that the method has one thing right – less is more – we are slathering way too many chemicals and products on our faces everyday. I do not think that totally abandoning taking care of your facial skin is going to be productive ether. Eventually you are going to have dead skin buildup and dirt buildup, your skin will look grey and dull.

I think a good balance is key. Using a light, powder exfoliate (like this one) and a facial oil (my fav) as a moisturizer will be the most simple skin care routine you can do. It won’t strip your skin of it’s natural oils, but will get rid of dead skin cell build-up. Facial oils are excellent for the skin (since our skin naturally produces oil). I prefer them over cream moisturizers, which always break me out. .

Andrea and Marie, this page (and other pages of your site I looked at) is well organized with visibility (lots of images). You appear to be knowledgeable and competent to speak on the subject matter and the products you are recommending and reviewing. Reading your content really held my interest and desire to know more-thank you! I noticed that you included as a footnote in your site pages that you are an Amazon program affiliate and this is a way to earn advertising fees…. Is this mention a requirement by Amazon? I really like how you provide purchase links for each product/ingredient discussed and/or reviewed. Very smart and focused, in my opinion. Also, I like that your reviews have a consistent layout of content. Again, this makes for easier reading and retention of product information. Lastly, you have a great About page. The discussion of your experience and credentials and how you decide what products to try out and review is excellent. One last question regarding your page/site layout, are the top and side menus duplicate, or is the side menu items just worded and ordered differently? If the menus are different, what is the reason for this? Overall, though, an excellent site. Keep up the good work and I have your site bookmarked to come back and shop! Barbara

Thanks for your feedback Barbara. We try to stay consistent and bring top quality content to our readers. We really want to be the best! The disclaimer below is a requirement of Amazon. The top and sidebar menus are not duplicates, though a few of the items are the same on both.

    Hi Andrea,
You have some very interesting and unusual skin care products here that you have successfully encouraged me to try. I have to admit I’m particularly intrigued by prickly pear seed oil. Living in Tucson, I have a yard full of prickly pear cactus. Would I be able to make my own oil?

That is so cool that you have prickly pear in your yard! I am not sure if you could make your own prickly pear seed oil, as you would need some way to extract it, but I do know that you can eat the prickly pear fruit ๐Ÿ™‚ Prickly pear oil is best when it is cold-pressed, though maceration is another extraction technique. It is a very labor-intensive process, with the production of 1 liter of oil taking 36 hours of manual labor and 1 million prickly pear seeds.

My comment is related to using liquid collagen in a product. I read online that using collagen topically doesn’t work at all since the skin can’t absorb it. It had something to do with the molecular size compared to the skins ability to absorb it. You might do a search of that topic online.

Thanks Alena, I have heard that before, but I don’t know much about it. I will have to do more research on the topic ๐Ÿ™‚
