Rejuvenate and re-energize your mind and body with personalized aromatic & DIY therapeutic massage oil recipes.

Therapeutic massages are way too underrated and definitely should not be reserved for special occasions. Personally, I incorporate a soothing massage as part of my regular self-care routine. It’s a great post-shower stress reliever, helps speed up recovery if you workout regularly, and it’s a special way to show your body appreciation for all that it does for you. It’s also a nice treat for a loved one.

Where to Source Your Essential Oils

Before making your purchasing decision, there are two very important things that you must consider: The quality of the oil and the source. Only buy essential oils that are of high quality and from a reputable source! We recommend Rocky Mountain Oils – you can find out why here.

Benefits of a Therapeutic Massage

There are a couple of ways these DIY therapeutic massage oil recipes are gonna change the way you treat yourself. For starters, these recipes will feature organic essential oils that are well known for their aromatherapy. The scent from essential oils is known to manage pain, emotional unrest, treat headaches, improve sleep quality, manage anxiety, improve digestion, and boost immunity.

You can change these scents to your preference, but here are the most popular oils used in an aromatherapy massage oil. You can replace any of the essential oils in these DIY Therapeutic Massage Oil Recipes to treat what you need. It’s also a good idea to keep your base oil (I’ll explain that later) separate, then just before your massage, add a few drops of the scent of your choice.

Lavender- A classic for promoting sleep, relaxation, and is great for meditation.

Bergamot- Reduces stress and anxiety without making you sleepy

Peppermint-Invigorating and helps improve focus. Great for mid-day temple massage.

Eucalyptus- Great for face massage to relieve congestion and open up the lungs. Is also very cleansing.

Orange Blossom- Promotes well-being and optimism.

Lemon-Energizing and relieve stomach ache and nausea

These are just a few of dozens to choose from. A variety will also be featured in the recipes below.

Hydrating Hand Massage Oil

It’s winter and there’s a global pandemic. Everyone’s washing their hands more often and the dry air ensures that we’re all left with dry, cracked, knuckles. The hydrating hand massage oil calms irritated skin, moisturize, prevents cracking, and soothes redness and inflammation.

Not to mention, the smell is sweet and energizing. Keep this right next to the handsome in the bathroom or at your desk. Also makes a great gift.

Ingredients for a 2oz bottle:

  • 8 drops Vanilla Essential Oil
  • 8 Drops Sweet Orange Essential Oil
  • 4 Drops Lemon Essential Oil
  • ¼ Cup of Grapeseed Oil
  • 2oz Glass container

If you want this in a pump bottle, just double or triple the recipe. Add all ingredients into the bottle and shake before each use.

The essential oils in this recipe are vibrant and warm in scent as well as antibacterial and antifungal. Grapeseed oil is best for this recipe because it is rich in vitamins A, E, B, and D and has amino acids and essential fatty acids which nourish dry skin.

Love Potion Massage Oil

From the bathroom to the bedroom, this love potion therapeutic massage oil recipe has enticing floral scents, with a rich carrier oil that is enticing and hard to resist. Great for back and all-over body massages.

Ingredients for an 8oz bottle:

  • 12 drops Clary Sage essential oil
  • 12 drops Geranium essential oil
  • 10 drops Rose essential oil
  • 8 drops Lavender essential oil
  • ½ Cup of Almond Oil
  • ½ Cup of Apricot Kernel Oil

This gently feminine scent is alluring and calming. This blend is great for muscle relaxation and ideal to use just before bed for a good night’s sleep. The Apricot Oil gives it a longer shield life while the Almond oil imparts Vitamin E to restore the skin’s barrier.

Destress Therapeutic Massage Oil

This one is a fav for therapeutic face massage including temples, cheeks for lymphatic drainage, jawline for shaping, and the neck. Many people hold a lot of tension in the chin, jaw, and forehead. Massage the kinks out with this oil and experience a release of pressure all around your face and notice the stress melt away.

  • 16 drops Basil essential oil
  • 16 drops Lemon essential oil
  • 16 drops Juniper Berry essential oil
  • 1/2 cup Jojoba
  • 4 oz glass lotion pump bottle

Jojoba oil resembles the natural oil skin makes so it won’t leave you greasy. It easily absorbs into the skin leaving a healthy, youthful glow. Don’t run on your face if wearing makeup.

Energizing Massage Oil

Tired of the mid-day slump. A quick hand massage or temple rub with this DIY therapeutic massage oil recipe will boost your mood, increase focus, and give you the second wind that coffee can’t.

  • 16 drops Frankincense essential oil
  • 16 drops Grapefruit essential oil
  • 8 drops Ginger essential oil
  • 1/2 cup Grapeseed or Almond Oil
  • 4 oz glass bottle

Classic Massage Oil (Makes a Great Gift)

These scents are familiar, fresh, and uplifting. Designed for the general palette this therapeutic massage oil recipe is what we call the classic and our favorite to give away. The coconut oil makes it incredibly healthy and detoxifying for the skin. It can be used as a body oil or spot treatment for dry spots.

  • 24 drops Lavender essential oil
  • 24 drops Peppermint essential oil
  • 10 drops Grapefruit essential oil
  • 10 drops Lemongrass essential oil
  • 1 cup Fractionated Coconut Oil (or carrier oil of choice)
  • 8 oz glass lotion pump bottle

Custom DIY Therapeutic Massage Oil

Want to make your own recipe? It’s easy! Choose your favorite essential oil (a good idea is to look up their aromatic benefits) then a carrier oil. Remember to source your oils from Rocky Mountain Oils.

For every ounce of oil, you want to make you will need ⅛ cup of carrier oil (almond, olive, jojoba, apricot, avocado, grapeseed, etc) and 5-10 drops of essential oils. Mix and enjoy!
