Choosing the best makeup for dry skin is definitely my specialty, having very dry skin myself. We all know that moisture content and oils are important when choosing the right makeup. But we also need to pay attention to what ingredients work best.
Lets talk Moisture
Having moisture in your makeup is great, however, is not a good idea to choose just any foundation that has a moisturizer. Some makeup will be packed with moisture derived ingredients, but also have a high alcohol content or other drying agents that make the skin worse.
You will want to use moisture derived from plants in the form of oils. Oils are extremely beneficial for dry skin. There are however, ingredients such as wild rose or jasmine, that are not oil based, but is still very hydrating to the skin.
Keep in mind, ingredients high in moisture must also be able to penetrate the skin, otherwise we gain nothing beneficial.
High penetrating moisturizing ingredients
- Coconut oil
- She Butter
- Sunflower oil
- Wild Rose
- Aloe Vera
- Vitamin C & E
- Argan oil
Makeup Tips For Dry Skin, Step by Step
- Cleanse skin with a cream based cleanser
- Use a wild rose toner. Mist and let dry
- Moisturize with jojoba or a gentle cream
- Apply foundation
- Apply bronzer or blush (Cream Blush will be best)
- Apply a light dust of powder (Use a makeup brush)
- Always wash your skin at night. Do the first 2 steps again, followed by a night cream.
Tip-Be sure to exfoliate 2 times per week. Makeup will always set better on an exfoliated surface. I highly recommend Odacites jojoba bead exfoliant. It re-surfaces the skin, but re-moisturizes with jojoba.
Tip-After you have applied your moisture rich foundation and cream blush, you will want to set your makeup with a powder. As much as we want to provide our skin with the right moisture rich products, we also want to keep shine and glaze down.
These simple steps will help prep the skin to stay hydrated and prevent your makeup from looking caked on or flaky. If you maintain these skin and makeup tips, you will greatly improve your dry skin.

Lip Care For Dry Skin
We must not forget about our lips. When our skin is dry, this includes our lips. There are a few excellent options to provide our lips with the care they need.
Basically it comes down to preference. I personally love bold lipstick color, but on those casual days, I will rock a soft gloss or colorless lip balm.
As long as your product provides the proper rejuvenating ingredients, you can choose anything you love. Here is what I recommend.
Vanilla Nourishing Lip Balm by Bottega Organica
If you are anything like me, you cant get enough vanilla. I can already smell this yummy lip balm, but besides the smell, it is what dry lips need. Olive, shea butter beeswax, sage and vanilla bean oil. Simply Delightful.
Shea butter is going to nourish your dried out or cracked lips. You can also prevent these problems by using shea butter.
Lipstick For Dry Skin
Velvet Lipstick by Alima Pure
Who doesn’t want velvety lips? Hydrating and healing with bold color, a hint of vanilla and seriously packed with soothing oils.
When you want your makeup to provide skin benefits, be sure you read the ingredients. You do not want to use products that have alcohol or synthetics. Both can dehydrate the skin ad cause underlining skin concerns. Choose makeup rich in nourishing ingredients including our above list, and follow the skin care step by step to prep the skin and avoid dry, flaky makeup application.
Dry skin can be combated, if you include a proper skin care regime and the right products, you will find relief. I hope this has helped you, and if you have any questions or comments, drop us a line.
To a bright and beautiful you,
